Sandbox, a decentralized virtual world platform and a subsidiary of the Animoca brand, has introduced the Voxel Games program. The initiative aims to work with renowned independent developers and studios to create widely accessible games in a distinctive voxel style, thereby expanding the scope of the ecosystem. Currently, Studio Partners includes Frag Games and Devhouse Agency, with additional partners expected to be announced in the near future.
Using existing tools such as Voxedit and game makers, beginner creators were able to create Voxel-based assets, games, and experiences without the need for coding skills. The Voxel Games program extends access to these tools to game studios and indie developers, allowing you to create games using Unity, Unreal, HTML5, or other game engines beyond Sandbox’s no-code creation tools. Additionally, these games will be published and played in various other stores and platforms.
The program supports projects on a variety of devices, including mobile, web, PC, and more, and expands delivery options, including traditional platforms. Game projects use traditional monetization methods such as free play models, microtransactions, in-app purchases, and advertising. Additionally, these projects integrate sandbox blockchain elements, such as accepting sand utility tokens and incorporating player-owned digital assets such as avatars, land, and voxel assets.
Sandboxes provide access to the ecosystem and enhance sand token utility with new programs
The program will enable independent studios to take advantage of the wider sandbox community and ecosystem. This includes over 6 million accounts, 4.8 million cryptocurrency wallets, over 25,000 landowners, 55,000 avatar owners and over 290,000 sand token holders. The integration also aims to enhance the utility and adoption of sand tokens and expand usage beyond the sandbox platform itself.
Currently, the sandbox has over 170,000 voxel asset owners and 1.7 million assets created. The Voxel Games program offers projects with exposure to more than 400 partner brands and grants studio access to a variety of intellectual properties. Additionally, sandbox users will have the opportunity to use their assets in a new range of games.
Sandbox users’ in-game perks are incorporated into the Voxel Games project. These include exclusive skins, props, accessories, and access to specific areas within future releases.
Sandbox acts as a virtual platform that allows users to use blockchain technology to create, own and monetize game experiences. Its key elements include game content, land, NFT and sand utility tokens.
Recently, it raised $20 million in convertible debt and valued the company at $1 billion. The funding round was led by Kingsway Capital and Animoca Brands, and introduced further participation from LG Tech Ventures and True Global Ventures.
