Eigenlayer, Eigenlayer, the hottest startup of last year, launched it a year ago with massive expectations. Many community members quickly criticized it for lack of important features.
According to a announcement from the project on Wednesday, the feature — thrashing — is expected to finally arrive on April 17th. The introduction of thrashing marks the first “functional full” version of the protocol.
Eigenlayer pioneered the concept of reopening, a way for Ethereum users to ensure additional protocols beyond the base layer by recommending pile layers. Thrashing is considered to be the core of this system, providing the app with a way to punish bad actors by grabbing parts of the capital.
The implementation of thrashing allows for aggressively verified services (AVSS) (apps built on Eigenlayer’s redevelopment system) and allows you to set custom conditions that punish operators who do not meet pre-established conditions and reward those who do so.
“This is a major step forward in unique layer protocols as it allows operators to earn rewards for their work and allows them to launch verifiable services,” Eigenlayer said in a blog post.
Within a year, Eigenlayer attracted more than $15 billion to the platform, creating a massive hype for the Eigen Token, which launched in October.
According to the website, the Eigenlayer ecosystem is expanding, with “100+” AVS under development. Notable services include Eigenda, a data availability service run by Eigen Labs, and an ARPA network that specializes in unreliable randomization.
Igenlayer was pioneering a reopening, but there was no predatory space for competitors to gain market share. The symbiosis that allows for the restructuring of any asset is being used by early adopters of Eigenlayer, including Hyperlane, an interoperability framework, and Ethena, a popular synthetic dollar protocol.
