US President Donald Trump said in a statement on negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program that contacts with the Iranian government are expected to continue today.
President Trump told reporters before his visit to Texas that he wants a deal with Iran, but reiterated that he would never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
President Trump said talks with Iran continued this week and stressed that pursuing a diplomatic solution remains a priority despite the continued large-scale U.S. military buildup in the region. President Trump expressed reluctance to use military force, saying, “I don’t want to do that, but sometimes we have to.”
President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s negotiating methods, saying, “I’m not satisfied with the way Iran is negotiating.” The president noted that the Iranian government had not yet clearly uttered the “golden words,” a pledge to “prohibit nuclear weapons,” and added, “Iran should be wise in entering into a deal.”
