Bitmine Immersion Technologies was placed on the Tentative Additions List published by FTSE Russell on June 18th. – It tracks the largest publicly traded companies in the United States by market capitalization. – sits within the broader Russell 3000 universe, and the company says its market capitalization qualifies it for the large-cap tier. The restructuring will take effect after the U.S. market closes on June 26th. Final index membership is yet to be confirmed.
Bitmine is a publicly traded Ethereum finance company that leverages capital market funding and staking to build Ethereum at scale ($ETH) balance sheet. The company announced on June 22 that it held 5.67 million shares. $ETHrepresenting 4.7% of the total token supply.
Index inclusion is important because many exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual funds, and institutional investors track or reference benchmarks like the Russell 1000. When a company joins an index, passive funds that replicate that benchmark may have to buy its shares, creating benchmark demand that supports prices.
Cryptocurrency moves to benchmark
For crypto companies, index membership has become an indicator of organizational acceptance. Strategy’s entry into the Nasdaq 100 in December 2024 made the Bitcoin treasury company one of the most-watched companies in the US growth benchmark. Coinbase joined the S&P 500 in May 2025, becoming the first crypto-native company in the index.
These events didn’t change the underlying business, but they did change the people who had to pay attention to it. Index membership increases liquidity, expands ownership, and allows you to incorporate cryptocurrency exposure within your regular stock portfolio.
Bitmine would represent another version of that trend. The company has built its market identity entirely around Ether accumulation and staking, rather than exchanges like Coinbase or Bitcoin vaults like Strategy.
The company says it is close to its goal of owning 5% of all shares. $ETH. It also reported total holdings of $10.7 billion in virtual currencies, cash, securities, and other assets.
System flow that attracts attention
Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine and head of research at Fundstrat and FS Insight, said Russell’s hiring could be important because large passive and active pools use the index as a reference point.
However, the tailwind effect of inclusion in the index is not guaranteed. This may be offset by weakness in valuations, market sentiment, or the underlying asset. Bitmine stock remains tied to the price of Ether, its staking income, and investor confidence in its financial model.
If confirmed for entry into the Russell 1000, Bitmine will join major U.S. stocks and expand the cryptocurrency’s presence in standard institutional allocation channels.
