Ethereum Institutional, a new independent nonprofit organization, has been launched with the aim of accelerating institutional adoption of Ethereum, its Layer 2 network, and the broader ecosystem.
The organization is led by David Walsh, Marius Smith and Matthew Dawson. Walsh previously led corporate activities for the Ethereum Foundation, and the organization said his leadership brings experience spanning institutional investor engagement, capital markets, and Ethereum ecosystem development. It said its mission is to provide institutions with a neutral and independent window when evaluating Ethereum regarding tokenization, stablecoins, and other on-chain financial infrastructure.
In announcing its efforts on X, Ethereum Institutional said institutions need a “trusted and independent front door” to the Ethereum ecosystem. While Ethereum’s neutrality is one of its critical strengths, the group argued that because of that neutrality, there is often no clear entity involved when companies make long-term infrastructure decisions.
The launch comes as the Ethereum Foundation continues to narrow its role to managing the core protocol, and ecosystem participants increasingly create independent organizations focused on specific areas such as business development, organizational backing, and developer support. The transition follows broader changes at the foundation, including a leadership shakeup and long-standing community demands for greater transparency.
