Belarus and Russia are coordinating plans for digital currency integration as Minsk is targeting a full digital ruble rollout by the second half of 2026.
According to National Bank Chief Roman Golovchenko, Belarus is preparing to fully distribute the central bank’s digital currency by the second half of 2026. According to Golovchenko, the digital ruble is one of the central bank’s priorities and “we are actively working on creating it.”
“The digital ruble is one of our priorities. We are actively working on its creation. First of all, we are focused on the security of our funds, which is what I call “coloring” of funds. For nations, it is extremely important to track how digital money moves along the entire chain. ”

Golovchenko said the National Bank has three major jobs. First, we’re thinking about what a digital ruble platform will look like. Secondly, build homemade software to run it. Third, it sets rules and regulations on how it works and is supervised.
The plan is to begin using the digital ruble in 2026, followed by government agencies and individuals in 2027. Golovchenko added that the Central Bank of Belarus is seeing promising potential for CBDCs in cross-border payments.
In early April, Crypto.News reported that the Bank of Russia had postponed the full deployment of its central bank digital currency to mid-2026, citing the technical transition issues facing participating banks.
