The XRP ledger (XRPL) has made a major leap into utility and global reach with the native launch of USDC, the world’s largest regulated stub coin.
As news gains momentum, Block Digital’s president Santiago Velez sees it as a victory for the broader ecosystem, regardless of the motivation behind the move.
USDC lives in XRPL
For context, June 13th, circle Native USDC officially released With XRP Ledger MainNet. This integration allows Stablecoin to have direct access without the need for a bridge.
In particular, Circle Mint and Circle APIs fully support integration and enable fast, low-cost payments for developers, fintech companies and institutions using XRPL’s Layer-1 blockchain.
With this update, XRPL’s USDC can power enterprise B2B and cross-border payments, Defi Lowitidity Provisioning and Token Swaps, and financial applications for faster on/off ramps and settlements.
XRPL is currently participating in 21 other blockchains with native USDC support, expanding Stablecoin reach to new payment and financial use cases.
Velez: Two scenarios, one positive outlook
In particular, in a TweetSantiago Velez responded to the presentation by outlining two possible interpretations of circle movements. He emphasized that both are positive about the evolution of the XRP ledger.
According to Velez, the integration clearly shows the open nature of XRPL. He emphasized that XRPL really shows that it is open and unauthorized as Circle did not require Ripple’s approval to launch USDC.
In his view, this indicates the decentralization of the actual network. Other commentators added that development will be even more challenging Bitcoin’s maximalist claimclaims that XRPL is centralized and requires external permission.
Second, Veles proposed that the launch could represent a strategic alliance. From this perspective, Ripple and circle may be adjusted At a deeper level, it forms the dominant power in a Stablecoin-based payment infrastructure, along with larger equity plays. In particular, there will be a continuing talk from Ripple Acking Circle.
Velez, on the other hand, emphasized that these two scenarios are not mutually exclusive. Together, they show that XRPL is gaining a mature role in digital finance.
Community Response
The integration of USDC in XRPL has already sparked debate over the strategic timing of future adoption and launches.
A member of one community argued that Circle likely perceived the launch of RLUSD as a threat to USDC, and therefore felt compelled to XRPL to offer USDC as an alternative. They proposed that launching with the new Layer-1 would be easier than liquidity, institutional players and RWA publishers migrating to another blockchain.
Others who agreed with this view said Ripple still benefits regardless of dynamics.
Ripple wins regardless.
