The BNB Chain upgrade will provide better EVM compatibility and developer flexibility, and will be performing live on Mainnet on March 20th.
Bnb Chain’s Pascal Hardfork is an upgrade set that brings several enhancements to the blockchain network, and will be rolled out to the mainnet this March. Following the announcement, this upgrade should be live in about two weeks. Specifically, it will be March 20th.
Why is Pascal Hardfork in the BNB chain important?
The latest BNB chain upgrade mainnet activation follows the February 2025 (BNB) testnet release of the BNB-driven blockchain hard fork. The developer team initially emphasized the temporary mainnet release date for mid-March, but the team is considering March 20, 2025.
Pascal provides compatibility for Ethereum (ETH) virtual machines via EIP-7702, which offers improvement proposals that allow externally owned accounts to run smart contract code. This means that the wallet will act as a smart contract that allows for gas-free transactions, batch approvals, and swaps.

Pascal introduces the same features and EVM compatibility that Ethereum is paying attention to in its Pectra upgrades. The upgrade has improved user experience in Binance’s blockchain network and improved easier Web3 onboarding as decentralized applications help with gas prices.
Pascal Hardfork must be updated by node operators and validators, exchange and infrastructure providers, and developers. This is to ensure compatibility to ensure that participants are no longer synchronized due to a failed update.
The next step in BNB Chain after the Pascal Update includes two important milestones of network speed. These were assigned in June 2025 via the Lorenz Hard Fork, which is expected in April 2025.
Lorentz targets faster blocks in 1.5 seconds, but in Maxwell upgrades, transactions in the BNB chain will show transactions in subsecond finality at 0.75 seconds.
These are important upgrades as BNB chains target decentralized finance and traction across artificial intelligence. The recently announced AI roadmap is similarly revealed.
In particular, the intersection of Defi and AI germinated the rapidly expanding Defai ecosystem, bringing opportunities from AI and blockchain. Optimizing yield generation, cross-chain intelligence, and liquidity management includes benefits.
