Chicago Mercantile Exchange will deploy spot quoting futures for top cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum on June 30, 2025, as well as top equity indexes.
CME Group, a major derivatives market, says spot-cited futures will target retail investors and will be available from June 30th.
In particular, CME is considering the position of the top cryptocurrency spot cited futures in the world with market capitalization Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
If approved, the CME Group’s latest products will allow retail investors to access futures contracts for the S&P 500, NASDAQ 100, Dow Jones Industry Average and Russell 2000.

According to Tim McCourt, an alternative to CME Group’s Global Head, FX and alternative products, the product is the result of increased demand from investors. The expected launch means retailers will have immediate and easy access to Crypto and Equity Index futures.
“Spot-cited futures will provide retailers with more flexibility by maintaining positions according to long-term views without frequently rolling positions, or by making them easier to trade in and out of positions,” McCourt noted.
This product offers small, capital-efficient contracts and can be held by holders for up to five years. According to CME, spot-cited futures contracts share similar features to those of permanent contracts, but offer greater accuracy and market accessibility.
“We’re committed to developing our products,” said Steve Sanders, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Product Development for Interactive Brokers. “Spot cited futures allow investors to trade directly at the spot level while gaining capital efficiency and margin benefits from futures contracts. This is a sensible solution for traders looking to optimize both execution and cost.”
CME announced Euro religions’ microbitcoin and Ethereum futures in February 2024. These came after the derivatives market giants successfully deployed US dollar-denominated micro-BTC and ETH futures in May and December 2021 respectively.
Recently, the company launched Solana (Sol) Futures.
