Venezuela’s National Supervision of Cryptoassets and Related Activities (Sunacrip) has granted the Crixto cryptocurrency platform a new operating license, allowing it to operate legally in the country.
This official document sent to the CriptoNoticias editorial office is identified by the number CI-SUNA-2026-001 and was published on January 2, 2026. Establishes operational effectiveness of the platform until December 31 of this year. This authorization gives the company the authority to act as an intermediary in the Venezuelan cryptocurrency market under the direct supervision of regulatory bodies.
According to the text of the license, platforms will continue to be allowed to exchange fiat currencies for digital assets and vice versa. This entity is authorized to carry out peer-to-peer (P2P) exchange operations, custody of funds, and informal or over-the-counter (OTC) market services.
The approval also includes gateway and payment processing capabilities, allowing the integration of these technologies into the country’s traditional commerce, primarily through banks.
The document was signed by Anabel Pereira Fernández in her capacity as the National Superintendent (E) of the facility. The official made the grant based on the authority granted by the Constituent Decree on Comprehensive Cryptographic Active Systems, originally published in January 2019 in Official Gazette No. 41,575.
Regulation of the use of digital assets in Venezuela
This regulation aims to regulate activities that use decentralized accounting technology. The use of assets such as Bitcoin (BTC) in the Caribbean.
The license states: Crixto’s operations are subject to compliance with national and international laws and guidelines. About risk management.
Specifically, companies must follow recommendations on preventing money laundering and terrorist financing. Sanctions provided by law if violations are detected during the supervisory process.
CriptoNoticias reports that Crixto is involved in dozens of stores in Venezuela, including well-known stores in the country such as Mundo Total and Apolo. This allows businesses to receive bolivar currency but pay for products and services with the USD Tether (USDT) stablecoin.
This mechanism acts as a payment gateway that handles the automatic conversion of digital assets to fiat currency. When clients make payments in stablecoins, a platform licensed by Sunacrip acts as a financial intermediary.
The system settles the operation instantly, allowing the user to deduct the amount from their wallet and the merchant to receive the equivalent amount in bolivars directly to their bank account.
