US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed important geopolitical issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, over an hour-long call. The conversation is as Washington seeks approval for the possibility of a ceasefire in Moscow.
The Kremlin confirmed that the two leaders have discussed the Ukraine crisis and agreed to maintain communications in the future, according to the Russian state communications agency TASS. One of the most important outcomes of the meeting was the planned exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides agreeing to exchange 175 prisoners each.
Putin and Trump also discussed issues of the Middle East and concerns about the global energy outside of Ukraine. As part of efforts to alleviate tensions, Russia and the US will establish a group of experts to promote the resolution of the Russian-Flaine conflict.
Russia has pledged to transfer 23 seriously injured Ukrainian soldiers to Kiev as a humanitarian gesture. However, the Kremlin said it remains difficult to maintain control over a possible ceasefire. Putin said that for the ceasefire to be effective, the mobilization and armament of Ukrainian forces must be stopped.
According to media reports, in these talks, Putin agreed to halt a 30-day attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
The discussion also touches on sports diplomacy, and Trump reportedly supports Putin’s proposal to hold ice hockey games between American Russians and American players.
However, Bitcoin prices are under pressure after a speech that has not confirmed a decisive ceasefire. The BTC was expected to respond proactively in the event of a ceasefire or peace agreement.
