Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovich has partnered with Digital Marketplace Sex to release three new NFT drops that represent various elements of her work.
According to an Artnet report, Abramović has decided to return to blockchain with a new NFT project entitled Marina Abramović Element or Mae. The project shows that she has returned to Web3 balls since her first venture in 2021, which offered her 2001 artwork as a collectable NFT.
In her latest project, Abramović has partnered with Digital Marketplace Taex to release three theme NFTs that have been ingrained in interactive features that showcase different aspects of the artist’s work over the years. Inspired by a fictional story created by Abramović, the project will run from May until September 2025.
The first NFT drop explores the symbols and archetypes of Abramovich’s artistic practice, revolving around art themes. The second drop is called Life. This shows how you can utilize different places, gestures and costumes in your artwork. Finally, the final NFT drop is called the Marina Abramovich Act, and presents a journey of self-discovery by establishing the Marina Abramovich Institute in 2023.

Each NFT drop consists of a different format and rare level. In stills, this is usually a loop animation epic that adapts to the actual moon cycle, which is unusual for loop animation.
In addition to the three NFT drops, traders can also collect what is called a transformed crystal by playing a specially designed game. The second NFT drop comes with a game called Maze, and the Counting Crystals game launches with the third drop. Collectors can earn conversion crystals from these two games.
By retaining the transformed crystals, participants can mint the limited edition 5D MAE performance and the 5D MAE avatar NFT.
After the final drop, May will be able to cast the Mae tokens, the final NFT of the project, at an event called Great Mint, in November, to commemorate the end of her collection.
May Token will be released in the form of video artwork and animations that show Abramovich’s digital avatar is performing a new iteration of her famous work.
However, in order to mint the MAE token, the trader must first collect all three epic NFTs, conversion crystals, or three rare NFTs and conversion crystals from the previous drop.
