Plume, a blockchain focused on real world assets (RWA), has launched what it calls its first payroll pilot using tokenized money market funds. This allows employees to convert a portion of their salary into yield-bearing fund shares without having to interact with a crypto exchange or manually move funds on-chain.
The pilot combines Plume’s on-chain infrastructure with Toku’s stablecoin payroll platform and WisdomTree’s tokenized money market fund WTGXX. Participating Plume employees can make a one-time election to allocate a portion of their paycheck to Fund shares. Fund shares are purchased via WisdomTree Connect and stored in a verified wallet linked to your WisdomTree Prime account.
WTGXX has emerged as one of the fastest growing tokenized Treasury funds, surging more than 700% from May to August last year. WisdomTree has since expanded its fund range to Solana and integrated debit card spending functionality.
From stablecoins to fund shares
This initiative builds on the growing wave of stablecoin-based payroll solutions by adding a layer of passive yield. Your rewards flow directly into a regulated money market fund, rather than being deposited into your checking account or stablecoin wallet, so your savings automatically accumulate every time you get paid.
“Trillions of dollars move through payroll each year, but until now, companies have earned nothing on free float and employees have earned minimal yield on their checking accounts,” said Ken O’Friel, CEO of Toku.
Plume and WisdomTree previously collaborated through an OpenTrade integration that brought WisdomTree’s tokenized funds into Plume’s Nest staking vault. Payroll Pilot extends that relationship to new distribution channels.
As investor demand for RWA continues to grow, Pilot positions payroll as a new entry point for tokenized funds. Major financial institutions such as JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs have launched their own tokenization products, highlighting the rapid institutional adoption of this space.
The program is currently limited to Plume employees, but is designed as a reference model for broader adoption across payroll providers and wealth managers.
