Ripple has launched a pilot project to see Ripple USD, a Stablecoin used to relieve drought in Kenya.
The announcement comes days after Ripple integrated Ripple USD (RLUSD) Stablecoin into its payment solution.
Ripple is affiliated with Mercy Corps Ventures and Diva Donate. It is a platform that leverages decentralized financial technology to promote donations to pastoralists affected by Kenya’s droughts for initiatives.
Partners will leverage blockchain technology to bring financial aid to their target community through RLUSD, Team Ripple noted.
As outlined in the blog post, the pilot is part of Ripple’s broader efforts to widen the impact on cross-border payments, an effort that is expected to subscribe to the RLUSD deployment. Like other blockchain-based projects, the use of Stablecoins is aimed at improving transparency, payment speed and access for non-banked people.

According to Ripple, the pilot program shows how blockchain and stubcoin can improve aid and insurance offerings. This test uses RLUSD on Ethereum (ETH) networks.
The program’s RLUSD pool is open to anyone who can donate by connecting their wallets.
Smart Contracts hold escrow funds and automatically send RLUSD to those affected by the drought. However, if the system detects a drought condition by May 31, 2025, satellite tracking detects a drought trigger, this will become involved in action.
If the system determines that the pastoralists are likely to have a shortage of livestock vegetation, each participant will receive $75 (approximately 9,600 Kenyan Shrimp) in RLUSD. Organizers say this amount is sufficient to buy food and water for one animal for six months.
Approximately 533 pastoralists from Kenya’s Laikipia County are expected to benefit from the aid.
Ripple plans to release pilot results later this summer. Fund contributors also have the option to withdraw RLUSD or assign it to future campaigns.
