The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved Grayscale’s Ethereum Trust ETF and Ethereum Mini Trust ETF products under the newly adopted “generic list” framework.
According to a statement dated September 23, 2025, the New York Stock Exchange ARCA (NYSE ARCA) has announced that both ETFs will be listed in Rule 8.201-E (generic). Previously, these products were listed in Rule 8.201-E (non-genetic), which required a special approval process.
This change streamlines and streamlines Grayscale’s list of Ethereum-based investment products and trading processes. The new framework eliminates the need for the SEC to issue special approvals whenever a similar product is listed in exchange.
The SEC said the regulations will increase market competition and provide investors with access to more transparent and safe products. NYSE Arca also argued that the change would strengthen the free and open market mechanism and protect the interests of investors.
Grayscale’s Ethereum Trust ETF was first listed on May 23, 2024, and the Ethereum Mini Trust ETF was listed on July 17, 2024.
