Tether, the world’s largest publisher of Stablecoin USDT, acquired 8,888 Bitcoins in the first quarter of 2025.
According to Crypto Analytics Firm Spotonchain, the purchase is worth around $735 million, raising Tether’s total Bitcoin holdings to 92,647 BTC, valued at around $7,644 million.
The company’s Bitcoin Holdings is currently one of the top six largest BTC wallets, with unestimated unrealized profits of $3.86 billion, according to SpotonChain.
Since May 2023, Tether has maintained a consistent Bitcoin acquisition strategy since committing to allocate 15% of its quarterly profit to top digital assets.
These purchases are usually made throughout the quarter and are settled at the end. Onchain data reveals that the company has acquired the same amount of 8,888 BTC for each quarter since its announcement.
This strategy is part of a broader effort to diversify its reserves, including gold, cash equivalents and other short-term assets.
Tether expansion
Beyond the expansion of Crypto reserves, Tether is actively expanding to other industries.
On March 31, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino revealed that the company is expanding its AI, communications and data infrastructure operations. He said the company currently employs across these sectors.
Ardoino emphasized that Tether aims to challenge legacy Web2 companies by building decentralized consumer products with peer-to-peer technology.
He said:
“Tether’s portfolio of upcoming projects and products is intended to disrupt many legacy Web2 businesses. It focuses on decentralising real consumer apps through peer-to-peer technology.”
Last month, Tether acquired nearly 50 million shares in Latin American agribusiness Adecoagro, increasing its ownership to 70%. The company operates in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, with a focus on sustainable agriculture and food production.
Additionally, Tether has secured a 30.4% stake in Italian media company Be Be Water through an investment of 10 million euros, including both capital injections and stock purchases.
