The Validator community in Solana ultimately approved SIMD-0326: Alpenglow activation. When activated, Alpenglow is set to reduce the finality of the transaction to 150 ms.
The biggest upgrade in Solana’s history, Alpenglow has secured validator approval
The activation of Alpenglow, a fundamental upgrade to the Solana (SOL) blockchain protocol architecture, is currently approved by the Sol Sol Balidators community. With 52% of validators participating, the SMID-0326 Alpenglow proposal is currently supported by 98.27% of Sol Stakers.
Community Governance Process for SIMD-0326: Alpenglow is complete. The proposal has been passed:
98.27% voted yes
1.05% voted for NO
0.69% voted for ABstain
52% of the stock voted– Solana Status (@solanastatus) September 2, 2025
A total of 1.05% of the SOL community opposed the revitalization of Alpenglow, but 0.36% of the voting rights abstained. Therefore, Alpenglow is scheduled to debut on Solana’s mainnet in 2026.
Alpenglow is set to retire from both Solana (Sol) Architecture, Proof of History (POH), and TowerBft. As a result, Solana (SOL) validates transactions in a completely new way, faster and more resource-effective way.
Proposed by Solana’s R&D team Anza Research, Alpenglow introduces two main components of the new design: voters and rotors. A consensus protocol, Lotor simplifies Solana’s Validator Voting Logic and optimizes the block verification process.
The new data propagation layer, rotors, reduce delays and align bandwidth usage with distribution of interest.
As a result, the block verification time for Solana drops from 12.8s to 150ms, and under ideal network conditions it drops to a value of 100ms.
Solana vs Ethereum: What to expect in 2026
Plus, Solana (Sol) can withstand attacks more than ever before. Solana (SOL) is controlled by an attacker and with 20% of the validators offline, allowing blocks to be validated even if 25% of the stained sols are offline.
In an introductory blog post, the Solana Foundation showed that Alpenglow is set to change the narrative of all participants in the Web3 economy.
When combined with the benefits of Firedancer’s throughput, the practical meaning is transformative. For traders: 1 second run with cryptographic finality for price-sensitive strategies. For applications: A responsive interface that feels native to the blockchain unconstrained. For users: instant feedback with mathematical certainty rather than probabilistic confidence
There is no exact timeline for Alpenglow’s activation yet, but it is expected that H1 in 2026, Solana (SOL) rival Ethereum (Eth) will ship Gloas-Amsterdam (Glamsterdam) upgrades at the same time.
Gram Stardom is poised to reduce Ethereum’s (ETH) block time to 50% to 6 seconds.
