ERC-7943, known as the Universal Real-World Asset (uRWA) standard, has reached final approval status in the Ethereum standardization process. This milestone marks a significant moment for the blockchain ecosystem, paving the way for a more secure and interoperable tokenization of real-world assets that is compliant with global regulations. Specification is currently frozen. The interfaces, error definitions, event signatures, and operational requirements have been fixed and are ready for production deployment on Ethereum and all EVM-compatible networks.
What is ERC-7943 and why is it important?
ERC-7943 defines a minimal vendor-neutral interface for compliantly tokenizing real-world assets on the Ethereum and EVM chains. Its goal is to provide a solid foundation for transfer validation, asset freezing, forced transfers, and enforcement actions without imposing constraints on identity providers, jurisdictional logic, or specific compliance stacks.
“ERC-7943 provides institutions and developers with a modular interface for compliance, transfer control, and enforcement, enabling the deployment of regulated assets in any jurisdiction without relying on a single proprietary stack,” said Dario Lo Buglio, lead author of the standard. In practice, compliance becomes “pluggable” as the standard separates on-chain interfaces from the underlying logic of KYC, sanctions, and jurisdiction.
Towards the introduction of the system
Reaching “final” status represents a fundamental threshold for company adoption. The proposal is subject to significant changes up to this point. ERC-7943 received final approval after several cycles of community review by Ethereum Magicians and the EIP Working Group. Now that the standard is complete, institutions and infrastructure providers can build on stable specifications designed to ensure long-term interoperability.
Brickken, the global leader in real-world asset tokenization, has already announced the integration of ERC-7943 into future institutional infrastructure upgrades. This standard is expected to become the reference framework for Brickken’s entire suite of products.
First public implementation
Adoption of ERC-7943 has already begun. The Capital Markets Technology Association (CMTA) has integrated this standard into the latest version of CMTAT, an open source framework for institutional tokenization. Chainlink demonstrated ERC-7943 compatibility through a public pull request connected to the Asset Compliance Engine (ACE). These examples demonstrate how standards are rapidly moving from the specification stage to practical implementation, especially in environments focused on infrastructure and compliance.
A global coalition supporting standards
Since its announcement in September 2025, the coalition supporting ERC-7943 has expanded to cover the entire value chain of tokenized real-world assets, including issuing platforms, infrastructure providers, exchanges, marketplaces, identity vendors, and audit firms.
Key backers and contributors include Bit2me, Brickken, Casper Network, CMTA, Compellio, Dekalabs, DigiShares, Forte Protocol, FullyTokenized, Propchain, RealEstate.Exchange, Stobox, Zoth, and more. Security and auditing is outsourced to Hacken and QuillAudits.
