On Sunday, Elon Musk published a tweet referring to Bitcoin, the world’s flagship cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin historian and journalist Pete Rizzo noticed this in a recent tweet and said that the Crypto community should now “buckle up” as they assume BTC is likely to surge up to 50%.
Mask’s Bitcoin mentions send ripples
On Sunday, Elon Musk announced the release of a new XChat feature on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Sharing the details, the tech entrepreneur said it was based on rust with “bitcoin-style” encryption and had a “all-new architecture.”
The new XChat allows users to send lost messages and any type of files to each other. It also has an audio/video call feature. “Audio/video calls can be made without a phone number on all platforms,” Musk added in a comment on his own post.
Fact: The world’s wealthiest man just raised #bitcoin for the first time in three years

Rizzo pointed out that this was the first time Musk has mentioned Bitcoin in his first tweet in three years. He also said that Bitcoin can easily surge 50%. This happened in 2021 when Tesla bought $1.5 billion in Bitcoin. However, despite the tweets from Mask, Bitcoin is down, but not at this point.
There are few mentions of Bitcoin for the third year by Mask
However, in the comments, the community doubted that the gap between what Bitcoin in the mask mentioned lasted for three years. They tagged AI Botglocks for clarity.
Grok has confirmed that Elon Musk has mentioned Bitcoin several times over the past three years. At least, it happened in interviews and podcasts, if not his Twitter page. Since Musk bought Twitter, he has stated that he can’t break Bitcoin because AI can’t reject the basics of mathematics. He also said on the podcast that he believes Bitcoin and several other cryptocurrencies have merit. This was 2024. Two years ago, he also mentioned Bitcoin in one of the videos released on YouTube.
Needless to say, “Bitcoin Style” and “rust” are not descriptions of encryption schemes, nor are strong indicators of the security of messaging apps. Also, it may not be just rust unless you have encrypted DMs only in the app.

Ian Myers, an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Maryland, commented on Musk’s tweet, calling it “meaningless.” He said Bitcoin uses signatures rather than encryption. “‘Bitcoin Style’ and ‘rust’ are not explanations for encryption schemes, nor are they strong indicators of the security of messaging apps,” he adds, clearly questioning Xchat’s security.
