SpaceX is swinging for the fences. The aerospace company founded by Elon Musk aims to raise $75 billion in the largest initial public offering in history, and plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX as early as mid-June.
The company plans to sell 555.6 million shares at a fixed price of $135 per share. This calculation means a post-IPO valuation of about $1.75 trillion to $1.77 trillion, which would put SpaceX in the rarefied air currently occupied by Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia.
From private darling to public giant
SpaceX’s valuation rose from about $210 billion in mid-2024 to $800 billion by late 2025, driven largely by private tender offers that allowed early employees and investors to cash out at increasingly impressive prices.
Confidential documents were filed with the SEC in April 2026, followed by a prospectus disclosure on May 20th. The roadshow is expected to begin around June 5th.
Proceeds will be used to expand rocket launch capacity, expand Starlink satellite internet service, and advance efforts in artificial intelligence.
For context, Saudi Aramco’s 2019 IPO raised approximately $25.6 billion, a long-standing record. SpaceX is looking to nearly triple that number with a single product.
Bitcoin angles that virtual currency investors should pay attention to
SpaceX holds more than $600 million in Bitcoin, making it one of the largest corporate BTC holders along with MicroStrategy, Tesla, and several other companies.
Coinbase has launched a perpetual futures contract tied to SpaceX’s private valuation that will be settled in USDC. This gives traders a comprehensive view of SpaceX’s price movements before the stock actually begins trading. If the company goes public, the contracts are likely to transition to standard futures products.
What this means for investors
At $135 per share, investors are paying for a future where Starlink is a global carrier, Starship dramatically reduces the cost of space access, and AI-related initiatives contribute meaningful returns.
If SpaceX’s IPO at its target valuation is successful, Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire. Musk-adjacent assets, from Tesla to Dogecoin, tend to move based on sentiment related to his businesses.
Investors will need to keep an eye on the reception of the roadshow, especially how institutional investors react to the implied valuation multiples relative to SpaceX’s actual sales and profitability numbers once disclosed in the prospectus filing.
