Virtuals Protocol, an AI agent infrastructure platform for the on-chain economy, announced that it will migrate its cross-chain operations from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP. The move will support the transfer of over $700 million worth of VIRTUAL tokens and become the protocol’s proprietary cross-chain infrastructure.
This decision follows an extensive security review conducted by Virtuals following recent LayerZero-related exploits. According to the company, the review focused on strengthening the infrastructure needed for autonomous AI agents that can trade, coordinate, earn revenue, and move value across multiple blockchains.
Virtuals Protocol develops tools to create and monetize AI agents. These agents can be launched, tokenized, funded, and managed as independent participants in the on-chain economy.
Chainlink, a blockchain oracle and interoperability network provider, was selected after Virtuals evaluated available cross-chain solutions. The company highlighted several features of CCIP, including a network of independent node operators, built-in rate limiting designed to reduce risk during abnormal events, and compliance certifications such as SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001.
With the migration, all cross-chain operations within the Virtuals ecosystem will now be performed through CCIP. The company believes this approach provides a high level of security for users and can support the long-term growth of AI-driven applications across the on-chain economy.
